Midnight at the Oasis
Angels are supernatural beings created by Heironeous, a powerful psionic who was worshipped as a god in eons past. Winged warriors carrying enormous swords, angels lack a face or individual characteristics; Heironeous created them as the physical embodiment of metaphorical ideals, such as battle, protection, valor, etc. A select few received the gift of individuality, enabling them to use critical thinking and long-term planning to achieve their ends; among them is Gaius, who has ever led the angels in Heironeous’ absence.
The angels live in the ruins of Samarthia, the demiplane created by Heironeous and his brother Hextor, where they live in their master’s palace and do constant battle with the latter’s salamander forces. They also repel attacks by the more recent arrival of Congress of Eyes.
Leoben warned that although the angels were created by Heironeous — who fancied himself the patron of valor, justice, and battle — they are not necessarily good.
